GAME TIME - Taking a look at local hoops

The 2010-11 North County loaded school basketball season will not be remembered as a banner winter by the three boys or girls programs.

Ponaganset and Scituate persevered through losing campaigns, the Smithfield lads played .500 ball in Dividing line I and the Sentinel girls had the most success of all six quintets, going 13-5. Both squads gained playoff berths but were eliminated in the zone-finals.

A brief snapshot of the upcoming 2011-12 season:

Crisis Coach Bob Comella and assistant Nicole Correnti are in their second decade on the Smithfield girls bench and are fa a strange and unprecedented problem. There is no junior varsity program at the secondary. Thus, numbers and the demanding Division I schedule could undermine the Sentinels' chances of celebrity.

There were 11 girls at a recent practice and all figure to be interchangeable parts during a 32-two secs game. Seniors Shannon Donahue and Ashley Lasalandra are the captains. Classmate Alicia Rodrigues is a first-year gambler. The Sentinels will count heavily on the contributions of talented junior Meghan Reall, sophomores Amber DeCristofaro, Fallon Greene and Jamie Banspach and a triad of untested freshmen, Rachel Balcom, Jenna Haberle and Lauren Hindley
